Kazakh students achieved top results at the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in the United States. In Washington, D.C., the team from Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) placed first in the written memorials and 12th in the oral rounds among more than 800 teams from 100 countries. They outperformed teams from leading U.S. Ivy League universities, as well as institutions from Colombia, the Philippines, and Italy. The competition simulates proceedings before the International Court of Justice.
«There are two main stages. First, you need to write two 60-page legal memoranda. Our university offers relevant courses, and we also studied the practices of leading foreign universities. Second, you need to defend them before three judges,» said Rakhimbek Konglimkos, coach of the MNU team.
«Participants from
different countries, among 800 teams, recognized us as being from Kazakhstan
and came up to us saying, «You’re
from Kazakhstan, right? Congratulations on such a strong result!’ We were very happy that
we were able to represent our country and bring it recognition on the
international stage,»
said Shynar
Baiton, an MNU student.
