Kazakh Senate proposes amendments to AI law

Kazakhstan is set to strengthen the protection of personal information, including a prohibition on using biometric data from publicly available sources without an individual’s consent. The measures aim to safeguard privacy and ensure information security. Members of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament, reviewed a law and amendments aimed at establishing a legal framework for regulating the use of artificial intelligence. The documents define key concepts, regulatory principles, AI system classifications, and safety requirements for their application. Amendments were proposed, including that works created with AI should be protected by copyright only if a human has made a creative contribution. Senators also suggested measures for assessing AI-related risks and increasing developer accountability. The documents have been returned to the Mazhilis for further revision.
