Kazakh President holds working meeting on parliamentary reform

Around 500 proposals on parliamentary reform have been submitted by Kazakh citizens through the e-Otinish and eGov platforms. The initiatives are currently being reviewed and consolidated. The State Counsellor informed the President of Kazakhstan about the interim results of the activities of the Working Group on Parliamentary Reform. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a working meeting with State Counsellor Erlan Karin and Assistant to the President on Legal Issues Yerzhan Zhiyenbayev. Earlier, the Working Group discussed issues related to the formation of a future unicameral Parliament and its legislative functions. Its next meeting is scheduled for January 9, during which proposals in other areas will be examined in detail. President Tokayev emphasized the special role of parliamentary reform in the transformation of the political system and instructed that all submitted initiatives be thoroughly considered in order to develop fundamental approaches to constitutional reform.
