President Tokayev meets with Speakers of Parliaments of CSTO member states

Kazakhstan supports Russia’s proposal to grant permanent status to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA). President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated this at the CSTO PA meeting. The Head of State emphasized that interparliamentary dialogue plays a crucial role in enhancing interstate relations. He also highlighted the need to ensure that the CSTO collective security system forces and means remain in a high state of readiness. President Tokayev noted the importance of strengthening cooperation with international organizations aimed at ensuring security. He underscored the significance of increasing collaboration with relevant UN, CIS, and SCO structures.

«We consider it extremely important to enhance cooperation with relevant structures of the UN, CIS, and SCO. We welcome the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the CSTO Secretariat and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center in January of this year,» Tokayev said.

The international situation remains extremely tense, with serious concern arising from the situation in the Middle East. Over a million people have found themselves in dire circumstances. The Head of State reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s unwavering position on this issue, noting that the only solution to the long-standing conflict is the creation of a Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem based on the ‘two states for two peoples’ formula. During the meeting, President Tokayev also addressed the situation in Afghanistan. According to him, one of the current strategic objectives is the active engagement of Afghanistan in interregional relations.

«Kazakhstan has removed the Taliban movement from the list of terrorist organizations, considering the importance of developing trade and economic cooperation with modern Afghanistan and recognizing that this regime is a long-term factor,» Tokayev added.
