The winners of the World Boxing Championship were honored
at the Akorda presidential palace. The sporting event took place in Liverpool,
where Kazakhstan’s national team claimed first place in the overall team
standings among 68 countries. Kazakh athletes brought home 10 medals, including an impressive seven golds. The gold
medalists were Sanzhar Tashkenbay,
Makhmud Sabyrkhan, Torekhan Sabyrkhan, Aibek Oralbay, Alua Balkibekova, Aida
Abikeeva, and Natalia Bogdanova. Other medalists
included Nazym Kyzaibay, Viktoria Grafeeva, and Yeldana Talipova. President
Tokayev described the athletes’ performance as brilliant and historic for the
country. He also noted that the results of this first World Championship were the outcome of the
national team’s coordinated efforts. However, the Head of State emphasized that
it is too early to relax. The Olympic Games in Los Angeles lie ahead, and the
people of Kazakhstan are placing great hopes on their athletes.
«Protecting the country’s standing on the international stage is not only a great honor but also a great responsibility. Your victories inspire the younger generation. It can be said with confidence that our athletes contribute to strengthening the nation’s health. To be a champion means to add to the glory of the country, for the glory of our athletes is the glory of the entire people and a reflection of our state’s authority,» Tokayev noted.
President Tokayev emphasized that all the necessary
conditions have been created in the country for engaging in
sports, with particular attention given to improving infrastructure. New sports
halls, complexes, and clubs for children and
youth are being opened across all regions of the country, including rural
areas. This year, the National University of Sports will also be inaugurated.
