More than 250 unique exhibits are on display in the new ethnography hall of the National Museum of Kazakhstan. Visitors now have the opportunity to gain deeper insight into Kazakh culture. The exhibition highlights the diversity of jewelry art and carpet weaving, showcasing ornamental motifs and a variety of techniques. Felt carpets such as syrmak and tekemet reflect the worldview of the Kazakh people. Among the exhibits are also items that once belonged to the Hun, Saka, and Scythian tribes.
«These
are among the earliest carpets and syrmaks of the
Saka period, once belonging to the
Altai Sakas. Until now, no major museum in our country had opened a
dedicated hall to showcase the ancient carpet weaving of our ancestors. We are
the first to do so,» said
Berik Abdigaliuly, the museum’s director.
