A handmade carpet woven in honour of the 100th anniversary of Saken Seifullin, a trophy leather coat of a German officer during the Second World War, a unique archive of photographs and other exhibits replenished funds of the historical and archaeological museum in Zhezkazgan. All these rarities were presented by residents of the industrial regions within the campaign “Leave your name in history”. An exhibition organized to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence displayed the most exclusive items. The museum contains more than 50,000 exhibits. Half of them were collected during such campaigns.
“This coat is made of marmot fur, handmade. The collar is astrakhan. This is the coat of Karatayev, academician, professor, editor-in-chief of an encyclopedia. It was donated to the museum by his relative. This is an exclusive, unique exhibit,” said Zagira Kalmenova, Deputy Director of Zhezkazgan Historical and Archaeological Museum.
“Of the 80 exhibits donated to our museum, 10 are valuable and rare. Among them there are things that belonged to the famous local historian, the first director of the historical and archaeological museum of Zhezkazgan, Sutemgen Bukirov. This is a headdress, figurines that stood in his office, valuable manuscripts, photographs,” added Kolkanat Yeskendirova, Researcher at Zhezkazgan Historical and Archaeological Museum.
