A Kazakh film, Citizens of the Roof, won two awards at the
Golden Lion International Film Festival in Kolkata, India. It was named Best
International Feature Film and also won in the Best Debut Filmmaker of Feature
Film category. Directed by Gulshat Smagulova, the film marks her debut. According
to the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information, the
film was also a quarterfinalist at the prestigious Oniros Film Awards in New
York last December. Citizens of the Roof tells the story of a friendship
between a young man, Damir, and a teenager, Kostya.
