International seminar on museum digitalization underway in Astana

The digitalization of Kazakhstan’s museum sector is entering a new stage. An international seminar bringing together domestic specialists and experts from Türkiye is being held at the National Museum. The program includes lectures, practical training sessions, workshops, and masterclasses focused on modern technologies in museum practice. Over the course of five days, around 100 employees from nearly 30 museums across the country are exploring contemporary approaches to digital transformation, museum fund management, the creation of interactive exhibitions, and the implementation of innovative solutions. The knowledge gained is expected to be applied in practice. In addition, the ten best participants will have an opportunity to undergo further training in Türkiye. According to the relevant ministry, Kazakhstan will soon procure specialized equipment that will significantly reduce the time required to digitize museum exhibits, from several hours to just a few minutes. The new technologies will first be introduced in the country’s national museums and subsequently rolled out to regional museums.

«We are currently preparing to procure specialized equipment that will make it possible to digitize monuments and museum exhibits in a matter of minutes. What once took a considerable amount of time can now be accomplished in just a few minutes. Last year, the E-Museum initiative was introduced, and exhibits were digitized. This is precisely what our digitalization efforts are about – making our history and culture more accessible to schoolchildren and tourists,» noted Alisher Yessenzholov, Chief Expert of the Department, Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information.
