Cyber academy opens in Astana

A cyber academy has opened in the Kazakh capital. It will operate at Astana IT University and admit its first students starting next academic year. The university already trains specialists in information security, but the new project will increase the number of students and enable them to gain experience with advanced technologies and practices. The academy is being established in collaboration with Palo Alto Networks, one of the global leaders in cybersecurity. Students will be given access to international best practices, specialized laboratories, and equipment for hands-on training. The program will place a strong emphasis on applied skills, as cyber threats are becoming more complex with the development of artificial intelligence. According to experts, under these conditions, future specialists will be able to hone their skills in line with the latest global standards.

«Three instructors from the university’s faculty have already undergone training. The academy primarily provides access to the latest knowledge in cybersecurity that Palo Alto Networks has in its database. This is especially important in the era of artificial intelligence, where we use various AI tools daily. And hackers use them toosaid Akhmet Tussupov, organizer of the Innovation Day Astana and Regional Sales Manager at Palo Alto Networks.

Training the next generation of cyber specialists is just one of the topics at the Innovation Day Astana forum, which brought together industry experts, government representatives, and developers of data protection solutions from Kazakhstan and abroad. The focus is on strengthening regional cooperation and creating a safe and innovative digital environment in Kazakhstan that meets the highest international standards.

«Today, we will discuss current challenges in cybersecurity, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence: how to defend against threats in a world where AI is being widely adopted, and how AI can also be leveraged for cybersecurity. We will also cover the solutions available today, the threats expected over the next year or two, and the necessary changes to Kazakhstan’s legislation to address these issues noted Doszhan Mussaliyev, Kazakh Vice Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.
