An open-air museum showcasing World War II military
equipment will open in Almaty. Work on the project is well underway, and the
museum is set to open by May 9. The exhibition will feature more than 30 pieces
of equipment and weaponry, including rare Soviet and German items. Among them
will be the legendary T-34 tank and a divisional gun from the 8th Guards Motor
Rifle Panfilov Division. Machine guns, howitzers, and anti-aircraft guns will
be displayed along two streets near the Army House. Some exhibits have already
been restored. Additionally, an outdoor cinema is planned, where well-known war
films will be screened.
«The museum plays a significant role in educating young
people, as patriotism is instilled through the study of history. Our primary
goal is to convey the heroic deeds of our ancestors to the younger generation,»
said Almatbek Nazarov, a staff member of the Almaty Military History Museum.
«Given the available space, we carefully selected exhibits
that best fit the area. As we walk this way, you’ll see a booth over there, and
further ahead is the Eternal Flame. Moving up from the Eternal Flame, visitors
will come across six artillery pieces, guiding them toward the museum,» said Alua
Baikadamova, Director of the Almaty Military History Museum.
