The first historical comic book about the Bozok ancient
settlement was presented in Astana. The captivating story of two travelers,
Alikhan and Aigerim, is a project by researchers from the Institute of
Archaeology and the Bozok Museum-Reserve. Educators were also involved in
creating the children’s edition. According to the authors, their input was
essential for presenting the storyline in a way that suited children’s age
group. The comic blends scientific accuracy with engaging storytelling based on
research findings—an aspect overseen by local archaeologists. It is available
in three languages—Kazakh, English, and Russian—and has been released with an
initial print run of 100 copies. Work is already underway on the next issues.
«As part of the implementation of the cultural policy
concept approved for 2023-2029, attention is being given to historical comic
books. So, we decided to create historical comics about the ancient settlement
of Bozok and brought archaeologists onto the team. I proposed the idea and, as
a teacher, explained how it could be presented. The scientific community and
historians, in particular, are eagerly anticipating the seven-volume collection
on Kazakhstan’s history,» said Saule Burbayeva, Director of the Bozok State
Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.
«It’s somewhat challenging, as most of us are researchers
accustomed to writing complex scientific articles. However, as parents, we
understand the importance of communicating with children in a slightly
different way. We hope to spark interest among the younger generation and will
continue sharing stories about the most remarkable archaeological sites in this
format. We believe that Aigerim and Alikhan’s adventures will continue,» said
Bakhyt Khassenova, leading researcher at the Margulan Institute of Archaeology.
