Central Asia’s largest rowing canal opens in Turkistan

An international-standard rowing canal has been opened in Turkistan. This sports complex, unique in Central Asia, will serve as a key center for the development of rowing in Kazakhstan. Athletes will train and compete there in kayak and canoe events, and stages of the World and Asian Cups will also be held at the venue. In addition, the canal’s water will be used for the city’s irrigation system and to water the green belt. Notably, the project was implemented in accordance with the directive of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

«Currently, more than 6,000 people in the country are engaged in these sports. The national team includes over 300 athletes who proudly represent Kazakhstan on the world stage. I am confident that the new canal will give them the opportunity to reach new heights and win even more medals. It is also worth noting that the opening of this facility will benefit the city’s residents,» noted Kazakh Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabossynov.

«This sports complex will enhance the prestige of not only Turkistan but of the entire country. The canal will not only boost the development of sports in the region but also make a significant contribution to increasing the city’s tourism potential,» said Turkistan region governor Nuralkhan Kusherov.
