Astana selects 29 AI projects for smart city development

In Astana, 29 top startups have been selected for the third cohort of the Astana Innovations Accelerator program. Chosen from 350 applications, the startups offer solutions based on artificial intelligence, Smart City technologies, and digital innovation. Their projects will soon be integrated into the infrastructure of Kazakhstan’s capital. The selected startups showcased their innovations during Opening Day at the Alem.ai International Center.

«This is the third cohort of our acceleration program, which we run jointly with Astana Hub. Our previous accelerator cohorts have produced a number of successful projects that have been implemented both as pilot initiatives and as full-scale solutions. One example is a smart streetlight dimming system. We worked with the local administration to implement the project, and the initial results have already shown a reduction in electricity consumption across the district,» said Aibek Akhmetbekov, Managing Director of the Astana Smart City project.

The event brought together representatives of government agencies, technology companies, the startup community, and Kazakhstan's innovation ecosystem. The Ministry of Digital Development announced its commitment to supporting domestic startups as they expand into international markets. Meanwhile, the Astana city administration launched the Astana.kz portal, which will integrate new digital services with existing Smart City technologies.

«The portal will allow residents to pay utility bills, access their personal accounts, and enroll their children in school. In other words, services that were previously scattered across different information systems will now be available in one place through the Astana.kz portal. The portal is also multilingual, allowing visitors to the capital to access information about the city, its parks, and local events,» said Alisher Batyrbekov, Head of Strategic Development and Innovation at Astana Innovations.
