The 15th ISAAC Congress has kicked off in the Kazakh capital.
It is one of the largest events in the world of mathematics, and this year
marks the first time it is being held in Central Asia. This underscores the
high level and recognition of Kazakhstan’s mathematical school. More than 700
participants from around the world have gathered in Astana, including
artificial intelligence experts and professors from Cambridge, New York
University, and Imperial College London. Throughout the week, scholars at the
congress will discuss current scientific advances, as well as new approaches
and methods in mathematics and related fields. Traditionally held every few
years, the event brings together leading scientists from across the globe. In
previous years, it has taken place in the U.S., Japan, Germany, Canada, and the
UK.
«For Kazakhstan, this represents an important step in
promoting science and enhancing the country’s status in the global scientific
community. Among those in attendance are laureates of awards equivalent to the
Nobel Prize in mathematics. Thanks to support from sponsors, 100 young
scientists were also able to attend the congress. Here, they will have the
opportunity to engage with renowned mathematicians and participants from around
the world and exchange experiences,» noted Durvudkhan Suragan, the Chair of the
15th ISAAC Congress.
«It’s one of the big congresses in analysis, just one area
of mathematics, that deals with the kind of equations that actually describe
the world. I think it is the first time that one of these large congresses of
mathematics is held in Central Asia. It’s very nice to be here,» said Fields
Medalist Martin Hairer.
