Amid global instability, the idea of unity takes on
exceptional significance. That is why the importance of an institution such as
the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan (APK) cannot be overstated. The APK
has become a symbol of equality and harmony. In Kazakhstan, it constitutes an
extensive network of institutions and is now regarded as an infrastructure for
social harmony, where all ethnic groups have become participants in the changes
taking place in the country. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized this
during the 34th session of the APK. He congratulated the participants on the
Assembly’s 30th anniversary.
«In recent years, large-scale political reforms have given
new impetus to the activities of the Assembly. Five Senate members are now
appointed by the President at the proposal of the APK Council. This has
significantly expanded opportunities to represent the interests of all ethnic
groups in the country at the legislative level. Moreover, for the first time in
the history of Kazakhstan’s parliamentary system, an inter-chamber
parliamentary group «Bir el—bir mudde» has been established to promote social
harmony,» Tokayev said.
In addition, 12 members of the APK are part of the National
Kurultai. Friendship Houses have been established in all regions, serving as
centers for thousands of ethnocultural associations. In total, more than 4,000
public organizations operate under the Assembly. Last year, the APK held over
15,000 events across the country, with around one million people participating.
The Head of State emphasized that the Assembly has been, and remains, a
platform for uniting society and strengthening national identity. He also
highlighted the need to develop a new Development Concept for the APK for the
period 2026-2030. To strengthen national unity, it is essential to continue
enhancing all state and public mechanisms.
«The Assembly needs to strengthen its work in the regions.
Last year, a new Friendship House was established in Turkistan, the spiritual,
historical and cultural center of our country. A similar institution is now set
to be created in the densely populated Almaty region. Thus, another important
center of public life in the region will be opened. The Assembly should have a
presence in the Kordai, Uighur, Sairam, Panfilov, and other districts where
representatives of various ethnic groups reside. The heads of relevant agencies
and local authorities should provide comprehensive support for the Assembly’s
efforts in the field of ethnomediation. The «Eldesu zhane Tatulasu» project
should be scaled up nationwide over the next two years,» Tokayev added.
The President also emphasized the importance of promoting
the idea of unity and harmony in the information space. He instructed that
support be provided to media outlets broadcasting in the languages of ethnic
groups in the regions, and that the potential of culture and the arts be
harnessed to implement the principle of «unity in diversity.» Today, as part of
the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the APK, the Head of State
presented state awards for contributions to the strengthening of peace, friendship,
and cooperation among nations.
