World Nomad Games through the eyes of tourists

The World Nomad Games are the focus of worldwide attention, with audiences watching on TV and online. Many people have travelled thousands of miles to see the Games with their own eyes. One of them is an Uzbek opera singer Khursand Sherov, who cycled from Tashkent to Astana to experience the special spirit of the competition.

«I came to support the Nomad festival, I travelled all this way to support our paluans, the fighters of Asia,» he said.

In Astana, it is now easy to meet those who have travelled to the capital of Kazakhstan from other continents. They aim to learn more about the life and heritage of nomads.

«I am from Australia. The World Nomad Games are being awesome, it’s my third day here. I’ve seen the horse wrestling, kok boru, horseback archery, strongmen, it’s been awesome. It’s my first time here in Kazakhstan and the first World Nomad Games, super well-run, awesome people,» said one of the visitors.

«I’ve ridden my motorbike from Singapore all the way to Kazakhstan. Horseback archery is my first game that I’m watching. We have kokpar, we have wrestling coming on. So, we are very excited for that. And this is really authentic,» noted another visitor.

Foreign visitors are fascinated by everything: customs, traditions, and the spiritual heritage of nomadic civilization. They remark that the atmosphere in Astana these days is deeply infused with this spirit.

«The culture is amazing. It’s a very unique culture, many things I’ve never seen before. I like the Games. I like the horse archers,» shared a man.

«I am from the United States, California. We are here in Astana at the Nomad Games. And it is incredible! The vibes are immaculate. The people are wonderful, the culture is amazing. I absolutely love Kazakhstan. This country is incredible, beautiful,» added another man.

Tourists mainly focus on the cultural diversity of nomads, which is presented in all its colors in the ethno-village. Its scale is also striking – it is spread out in the open air on a territory of ten hectares and can host up to 30,000 people.

This area of the capital has turned into a unique settlement that allows you to travel back in time and plunge into the world of nomadic civilization. There are yurts, nomadic life, various exhibitions of craftspeople, and concerts with a programme symbolic of the nomadic spirit. Guests and participants of the World Nomad Games can fully enjoy it.

More than 100,000 tourists from around the world came to Astana for this international ethnic sports competition.
