Nearly 130 million trees to be planted in Kazakhstan this year

More than 130 million trees are planned to be planted in Kazakhstan this year. Future seedlings are being grown in a special laboratory. Experts noted that nothing should disrupt the moment of transplanting small stalks. Everything must be sterile. Each plant has its own test tube with a special mixture. It is prepared here every day.

“The lack of any one component is immediately noticeable in plants. Sometimes the leaves can begin to turn yellow or fall off, or the growth stops. They can also be completely flawed and subtle. I have been working here for 8 years, I already know everything by heart, which components come after each other, how many milligrams are needed in which environment,” said Tatyana Limakina, Laboratory Assistant at a branch of Republican Forest Seed Selection Center.

There are about 15,000 containers with future trees. These seedlings are planted in the landfill. They will stay here for about a year, after which they will be taken to Kazakh forests. Experts have already started planting aspen in the Burabai National Park.

“This year, 65 hectares of aspen were planted in the Burabai National Park. We bring seeds from the nursery and plant them. Of course, we look after them,” noted Kaiyrbai Baltabayev, Forester at Burabai National Nature Park.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev set a task to plant two billion trees within five years. For these purposes, it is planned to allocate 22 billion tenge (US$51.6 million) from the state budget, and 60 billion (US$140.8 million) from local budgets. Over 80 million trees have already been planted in Kazakhstan since this spring.
