Toleubai Chektybayev believes that young
people should cherish the peaceful sky above while remembering the bravery of those
who defended their homeland. Now 100 years old, the veteran continues to recall
his wartime journey and shares his stories with youth. He was drafted at 18,
and after completing his training, was sent to the front. Toleubai and his comrades
reached Hungary as part of the Belarusian Army. In 1945, as a member of the
83rd Rifle Division, he participated in the liberation of the Chinese city of
Harbin. He returned home with honour, receiving the Order of the Patriotic War,
First Class and the Medal For Courage. In peacetime, Toleubai worked in
agriculture and contributed to rebuilding the country. A proud father of four,
and grandfather and great-grandfather, his courage and heroism will never be
forgotten and will continue to serve as an inspiring example.
«Let there always be a clear and peaceful sky above
our heads! May our homes be filled with peace, unity, understanding, and
harmony,» the veteran said.
