Metallurgists honor WWII veterans

Metallurgists in Kazakhstan honored the feats of the veterans of the Second World War. The ArcelorMittal Temirtau’s executives congratulated the veterans of Karagandy region on the Victory Day. They organized a concert for them and gave valuable gifts.

“On behalf of all the employees, I would like to thank you. I bow to you. Without your participation, without your contribution to the victory of 1945, none of us would be here today. Therefore, I express respect and gratitude to you on behalf of all employees of the ArcelorMittal Temirtau,” said Biju Nair, CEO of Arcelormittal Temirtau.

This year, Nikolai Kurilenko was honored especially. The front-line soldier celebrated his 95th birthday the day before. Despite his advanced age, the veteran is full of strength and energy. He admits that he feels like 17-years-old, just as when he went to the battlefields as a volunteer. 77 years ago, a young soldier welcomed the Victory Day in Poland - at the Vistula River.

“I wanted to get into the army so much, to get to take part at least at the end of the war. It was my biggest desire. My father died, and the war will end soon. I put all my effort to get there, and I managed to join the army. I ended up in a good military unit - anti-aircraft artillery,” said Nikolai Kurilenko, Veteran of World War II.

Only six veterans who fought at the front remained in the city of metallurgists.
