Kazakhstan to promote tourism potential through film industry

Kazakhstan is set to be promoted as a tourist destination through the film industry, an initiative led by Kazakh Tourism. The organization emphasized that films not only showcase the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage but also highlight its tourism potential. Kazakhstan offers a diverse range of stunning filming locations, including the Tien Shan mountain ranges, the picturesque Kaindy and Burabai lakes, the intriguing sand dunes of the Betpak-Dala desert, and the breathtaking Charyn Canyon. Medieval cities also offer cinematic appeal—for example, Turkistan, with its ancient mausoleums and fortresses, is ideal for historical films. Meanwhile, the futuristic architecture of Astana serves as a striking backdrop for contemporary storylines.

«Kazakh Tourism has appointed a tourism ambassador for Kazakhstan, whose role is to attract large-scale film projects. This initiative will enable local companies—especially key destinations—to showcase their beauty to a global audience. We know that film tourism and the film industry have a significant impact on the tourism sector. For example, the movie The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, greatly boosted the area's recognition as a tourist destination. We also expect significant interest in Kazakhstan from various film producers and directors,» said Alisher Tursyn, Director of the Project Facilitation Department at Kazakh Tourism.
