Submissions open for Astana AI Film Festival

Submissions are now open for the first international Astana AI Film Festival in Kazakhstan. Creators from around the world are invited to participate, as teams or individual authors. There are no age or qualification restrictions. The language of the film is not important, provided it includes English subtitles. The main requirement is that films must be created using full AI technologies, with artificial intelligence serving as the core creative tool rather than merely an aid for post-production. Short films must be no longer than 10 minutes, and completed works must be uploaded to the festival platform along with a description. Registration is open on the aaiff.ai website until August 15. The event itself will take place from September 28 to October 1. Organizers expect more than 3,000 participants from over 50 countries.

«There are three important criteria within the framework of the festival: storytelling, concept, and cinematography - in terms of how the film is made, how the visuals look, the storyline, and the overall concept. Based on these three criteria, a shortlist of 25 final works is selected,» festival organizer Almas Zhali noted.

The competition is divided into two sections and five separate categories so that participants have enough time to prepare their projects within the set deadlines. The works will be evaluated by international experts, directors, producers, and representatives of the creative tech industry. Based on the results, the best works will be selected: 10 in the main section and 15 in the open section.

«The first is a thematic category, where creators are invited to produce films specifically for the festival. They have two and a half months to do so. We also have an open competition, where already completed films that have been screened at other festivals can be submitted and showcased at our festival,» project co-author Aizatulla Hussein said.
