Artificial intelligence will be actively used to resolve international commercial disputes and arbitration
proceedings at the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) Court. The new system was presented in Astana. The
technology provides nearly 100 percent accuracy in transcribing hearings and
offers automatic translation into Russian and English. This tool enhances
transparency and efficiency in case review and significantly speeds up the
recording of evidence.
«It’s going to
make a tremendous contribution to Kazakhstan’s investment attractiveness
because it’s going to really assist with the evidence and reporting of case
management during case hearings. So, for anyone who is a lawyer or a judge, I
hope they will be impressed with it, and that investors will keep coming back
to Kazakhstan. We are doing a lot already – I think we are at the top of the
top already for AI tech through the AIFC court, IAC, and AIFC generally.
There’s a lot more we are going to do,» said Christopher Campbell-Holt, Registrar and
Chief Executive of the AIFC Court and IAC.
Another digital innovation is the Legal Tech Lab – a joint project of
the AIFC Court, the International Arbitration Centre, Maqsut Narikbayev
University (MNU), Astana IT University, and
the China University of Political Science and Law. The new platform will
develop AI solutions for drafting legal documents and supporting arbitration
and other legal procedures. This was announced at a forum attended by leading
global experts in legal technologies and AI. Experts emphasized that AI technologies are becoming
an essential part of global judicial practice and that new AI-driven solutions
will improve the quality of commercial arbitration in the region.
«The integration of economic
institutions brings expertise into the technological sphere, because even when
we speak about machine learning, we are essentially talking about creating an
entirely new approach – training an AI model to learn how to build a path to a
solution the way a lawyer would.
Our goal is to contribute to this process in a way
that helps Kazakhstan reach the next stage of technological development,
especially in the field of legal technology,» noted Sergey Pen, Deputy
Chair for Science, Innovation, and Artificial Intelligence at MNU.
