Rating of regional governors to be determined by quality of roads

The rating of governors will be measured by the quality of roads, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Kairbek Uskenbayev announced this at the Government’s meeting. According to him, the heads of the regions will bear direct responsibility not only for the condition of roads, but will also be responsible for the safety of transport between settlements. Uskenbayev also noted that in order to increase control over the quality of the work performed, amendments will be made to the draft law "On Transport". They provide for the introduction of joint responsibility of author's and technical supervision on a par with contractors during the warranty period. In general, according to him, more than a thousand legal acts aimed at resolving this issue are being revised.

“All the companies involved in the project, the contractors and all those involved in the construction of the roads will be responsible. The penalties will also be tougher. If in the past the perpetrators were limited only to fines, they will now be prosecuted,” said Kairbek Uskenbayev, Kazakh Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development.

According to the ministry, the length of roads of regional and district significance is more than 70,000 kilometers, which are in satisfactory condition. 95 percent of the country’s roads are expected to reach the standard state by 2025.
