Slovenia is an important partner of Kazakhstan in the
European Union, with direct investments in the Kazakh economy reaching $200
million. About 20 companies with Slovenian capital are successfully operating
in the country in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, engineering,
telecommunications, and renewable energy. Today, the President of Slovenia is on her first
official visit to Kazakhstan. A ceremonial meeting with Nataša Pirc Musar was
held at Akorda, followed by talks between the two heads of state in both narrow
and expanded formats. The outcomes of the discussions were announced by Kazakh
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar at a
media briefing.
«An agreement has been reached on the implementation of new
projects in mining, green energy, the nuclear industry, digitalization and
innovation, healthcare, and tourism. To effectively leverage the available
opportunities, I called for the intensification of the Intergovernmental
Commission’s work and for elevating its activities to a new level. One of the
priority tasks is to expand contacts between the business communities of our
countries. We discussed the establishment of the «Kazakhstan - Slovenia» Business
Council,» Tokayev said.
The expansion of transport and logistics connections is also
a key area of interest. Specifically, the heads of state discussed the
inclusion of the Slovenian seaport Luka Koper in the Trans-Caspian
International Transport Corridor project. Kazakhstan also intends to enhance
collaboration in water resource management. The parties also focused on
cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
«There is significant potential to intensify relations in
the fields of education, science, and culture. Slovenia's education system is
internationally recognized as advanced. Therefore, we look forward to
establishing connections between the universities of both countries. Kazakhstan
is ready to expand cooperation with Slovenian universities and research
centers,» Tokayev added.
The heads of state also discussed international and regional
issues, emphasizing the alignment of the two countries' positions.
«I am confident that today's discussion, along with the
visit as a whole, opens a new chapter in the history of relations between
Slovenia and Kazakhstan. Both countries share a respect for international law,
sustainable development, and a partnership based on mutual understanding and
respect. I am grateful for this and believe it will continue in the future,» Pirc
Musar said.
Following the negotiations, the presidents issued a Joint
Statement, and several memorandums were signed in the areas of education,
tourism, and trade. To further develop investment ties, the Kazakh-Slovenian
Business Forum will be held tomorrow in Astana. A delegation of 25 leading
Slovenian companies has arrived in the capital for the event.
