Key provisions of new Constitution discussed in Eastern Kazakhstan

The new Constitution is a solid foundation for long-term development. This was discussed recently in the East Kazakhstan region. In Oskemen, Senate Chairman Maulen Ashimbayev met with maslikhat deputies, representatives of the public and ethnocultural associations, young people, as well as labor collectives of the region to explain the key provisions of the draft new Constitution. He emphasized that the constitutional reform is an event of historic significance and a confident step toward strengthening democracy. Ashimbayev also paid special attention to the industrial and scientific potential of East Kazakhstan, as well as to environmental protection issues. For the region, the environmental provisions in the new document are of particular importance. For the first time, careful stewardship of nature has been enshrined among the state’s fundamental values, with environmental safety and care for future generations set as priorities.

«The constitutional reform is a logical and consistent continuation of the initiatives of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev aimed at the deep and systemic modernization of Kazakhstan’s political system. At the heart of the draft new Constitution are the principles of Law and Order, as well as the interests and rights of citizens. Overall, the draft new Constitution represents a deliberate and carefully considered transition to a modern model of the state. One of the key conceptual changes to the Basic Law is the affirmation of human rights and freedoms as the highest value of the state. In the new Constitution, they form the foundation of the entire system of state structure,» said Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.
