A series of bilateral meetings of
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the sidelines of the 78th UN General
Assembly continued with negotiations with the Slovenian President. The leaders discussed
the prospects of cooperation in trade and economic, transport and logistics,
humanitarian, and IT areas. An increasing role of Central Asia and Kazakhstan
was highlighted at the meeting as well. Tokayev emphasized that Slovenia is
Kazakhstan’s crucial partner in the European Union.
“I would like to extend a formal
invitation for you to visit Kazakhstan. We will host the Astana International
Forum in mid-June next year to discuss political and economic issues,” he said.
Tokayev met with President of
Iran Ebrahim Raisi to discuss the prospects for further development of
cooperation. The leaders underscored the significance of adopting a set of
measures to boost interaction in transport, logistics and trade fields. In
particular, they noted the great potential of using the Kazakhstan -
Turkmenistan - Iran railway as a key route for developing mutual trade and
transport across the Caspian Sea. Tokayev stressed the importance of building a
Kazakh trade terminal in the port of Bandar Abbas.
“We have reached very useful
agreements on the visa procedure, as well as on other areas related to the
interaction between business and citizens. I would like to say that Kazakhstan
is absolutely committed to strengthening relations with Iran,” shared the
Kazakh President.
Tokayev also spoke with the
presidents of Finland, Estonia and Hungary about the importance of increasing
mutual trade turnover and intensifying bilateral cooperation mechanisms.
“I would like to point out that
we have close cooperation with Hungary. We have very strong traditional ties
and relations. We appreciate what we have achieved in our bilateral
cooperation. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to visit
Kazakhstan,” he noted.
