Kazakhstan is gearing up to adopt
the international CRIRSCO standards in the field of subsoil use. Kazakh Prime
Minister Alikhan Smailov instructed the implementation of these standards for
new deposits during a special government meeting. He also emphasized the
importance of maintaining the operations of Kazakhstan's State Commission on
Mineral Reserves for existing developments. Additionally, Smailov instructed
the inclusion of accountability measures, extending to criminal liability, for
those responsible for preparing reports in accordance with KAZRC standards. It
is worth noting that CRIRSCO is an international committee uniting codes for
public reporting on reserves of solid minerals from countries such as
Australia, the U.S., Canada, Russia, India, Turkey, New Zealand, as well as
some states in Africa, Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia. The Kazakh
code, KAZRC, was integrated into the CRIRSCO framework in 2016, with international
standards set to take effect in Kazakhstan from 2024. This will facilitate the
attraction of foreign investments in geological exploration.
