President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received International Judo Federation President Marius Vizer. The Head of State highlighted that this sport has garnered interest in Kazakhstan, especially among children and youth. Vizer thanked Tokayev for his personal support for judo development in the country. They discussed the prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IJF, as well as preparations for the World Judo Championship set to take place in the country in 2027. They also talked about the upcoming opening of the IJF Academy in Astana, which is expected to become one of the regional centres for training coaches and referees.
«Today, judo holds a special place withing global sporting community. Judo is very popular here as well. We have a quite a lot of sections and training centers around Kazakhstan, more than 160,000 children are engaged in sporting judo here. And we are very much proud that our sportsman Yeldos Smetov managed to get a gold medal in the last Olympic Games in Paris. So, we are very much interested in developing ties and our more active cooperation with the International Federation of Judo,» Tokayev said.

I want to congratulate you and the Republic of Kazakhstan for the support which you are offering the sport, not only judo, but all the sport, which is the main mechanism of education, integration in the society today, as well as a factor of peace. All the judo family are united looking for the same goal - education and the best integration as a good human being for the society,» Vizer noted.
