At the Astana International Airport, Kazakh Paralympic medalist Yerkin Gabbasov was welcomed
with flowers, applause, shashu (a tradition of sweet scattering), and baursaks. The
athlete secured Kazakhstan’s first silver medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in the R1’s 10m Air Rifle
Standing SH1 event, finishing second to a South Korean athlete in the finals. Other national team para athletes in shooting and athletics also returned home, greeted early in the morning by their families, friends,
and counterparts.
«I am still excited. I never thought I would be welcomed like this. In Paris, I realized that I had won a medal and truly felt all the emotions. All my opponents were top-ranked and very strong,» said Yerkin Gabbasov, a silver medalist of Paris 2024 Paralympics.
