President Tokayev congratulates scientists on professional holiday

Ahead of Science Workers’ Day, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Kazakh scientists. An award ceremony was held today at the Akorda. The Head of State noted that in an era of progress, scientific capital is a key measure of a country’s global standing. In this regard, the sector is receiving consistent support. Over the past five years, funding for science has increased sixfold. The number of research universities in the country is growing, while businesses investing in scientific projects are provided with tax incentives. Particular attention is being given to supporting young scientists.

«Ambitious and talented citizens will be the main driving force behind the nation’s progress. They will follow in the footsteps of eminent figures such as Kanysh Satpayev. Therefore, researchers at the start of their scientific careers must be fully supported. Significant measures are already being taken in this direction. To date, over 600 young scientists have received housing, along with special grants. Each year, early-career professionals undertake internships at leading global research centers to enhance their expertise and exchange experience. These concrete steps will certainly continueTokayev said.

The Head of State also placed particular emphasis on the effective use of scientific potential. All discoveries by scientists must deliver tangible results and be brought into production. The government must not lose sight of this process, Tokayev stressed. Kazakhstan already has much to be proud of. Kazakh scientists are making breakthrough discoveries, while domestic universities are evolving into technological hubs. Last year, an innovative medical device, ALEM, was developed at the Heart Center, enabling donor organs to be preserved outside the human body for more than a day. The President added that it is now important to maintain this momentum and further strengthen the training of engineering and technical specialists.

«The proper performance of their functions by universities is a key factor in training qualified specialists and true professionals in their fields. It is also necessary to develop effective mechanisms for introducing new technologies in science cities and cities of accelerated development. Efforts are currently underway to grant the city of Kurchatov the status of a science city. Investors supporting such hubs should be encouraged. This remains one of the key tasks for the governmentTokayev noted.

Notably, the advancement of science is enshrined as one of the priorities of the new Constitution. However, while moving forward, it is important not to forget the past. Tokayev emphasized the need to study the works and further develop the ideas of the great scholars and thinkers Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and Al-Farabi. In their honor, new state awards will be established in Kazakhstan - the Orders of Al-Farabi and Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. They will be awarded to Kazakh citizens for achievements in education, science, culture, and the spiritual sphere. For the first time, on the eve of Republic Day, the best will be awarded the Meiirim, Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, and Al Farabi Orders. Today, researchers, professors, and developers received high state awards from the President.
