Kazakh students develop AI-based smart greenhouse prototype

Kazakh students have developed a technology capable of independently regulating the microclimate, lighting, and irrigation of plants. The innovation combines an IoT device with software. The project was developed over two months by students of the Almaty Construction and Technical College, Gabbas Bayazitov, Georgy Shikin, and Nazim Aliyev. The team paid special attention to the system’s energy efficiency and stability. The greenhouse is equipped with solar panels, and the software code is designed to ensure the device continues operating even with an unstable internet connection.

«This greenhouse is controlled via touch sensors, a mobile application, and an IP address. If the greenhouse is located at home, I can operate and monitor the sensors remotely while at work. The built-in artificial intelligence automatically adjusts the climate inside the greenhouse. On my phone, I can see indicators such as temperature, for example, 17 degrees Celsius, and humidity levels, which may reach 90% or even 100% in the soil,» shared Gabbas Bayazitov, student from Almaty Construction and Technical College.

Strawberries are currently being grown in the greenhouse; however, other fruits, berries, and even flowers can also be cultivated if desired. According to the young developers, their project aims to increase the efficiency of plant cultivation and reduce the need for human involvement in the care process. In the future, this technology is planned to be used both in home settings and in the agro-industrial sector.

«At the moment, it is only a model, just a prototype. The team is currently thinking about how to further promote it within the college and across our district. In the future, we will be glad to see their achievements, especially if this project yields meaningful results and helps them realize its great potential,» noted Elvira Baktybayeva, Deputy Director of Almaty Construction and Technical College.

The students intend to further modernize their project. Their idea is to expand the functionality of the mobile application for remote control and install cameras inside the greenhouse to monitor the condition of the plants in real time.
