On the eve of Republic Day, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Kazakh citizens on the national holiday. He highlighted that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the declaration of sovereignty, a significant milestone in the nation’s history. Tokayev noted that over the past decades, Kazakhstan has earned recognition from the international community, solidified the foundations of its statehood, defined its borders, and strengthened national unity. In recent years, the country has also taken meaningful steps to enhance the well-being of its people.
«Kazakhstan has embarked on a path of renewal. Following the nationwide referendum, amendments were made to the Constitution. The powers of Parliament have been expanded, and the responsibility of the government has grown. A Constitutional Court has been established. The institution of the Human Rights Commissioner has received constitutional status. A cassation court system has been operational since July. This was an important step towards strengthening justice in society,» Tokayev said.
Thanks to effective political reforms, a profound transformation has begun, giving strong momentum to the country’s economic growth. The transport sector continues to expand — this year, 13,000 kilometers of roads have been built and repaired, and the second line of the Dostyk-Moiynty railway has been launched. Since the beginning of the year, manufacturing has grown by 7.5%, while small and medium-sized businesses now account for 40% of the economy. Agricultural output has increased 2.5 times, and the construction industry remains among the leading sectors — last year alone, around 19 million square meters of housing were built.
«Kazakhstan has the largest economy in our region. GDP per capita has increased by 47%, reaching $14,400 — one of the highest levels among CIS countries. The country’s gold and foreign exchange reserves now amount to $58 billion. Over the past seven years, foreign trade turnover has grown by 83% and currently stands at $142 billion,» Tokayev added.
The next strategic objective is to transform Kazakhstan into a
fully-fledged digital country within three years. Artificial intelligence and
digital tools must serve societal progress, the President emphasized. He also
spoke today about the importance of reforms. The planned changes will
strengthen the powers and authority of Parliament. Moreover, the constitutional
amendments will affect not only Parliament itself but also the sections on the
President and the government. Tokayev stressed that forming a unicameral
Parliament based solely on party lists will contribute to the institutional
strengthening of parties and their work with voters. However, the majoritarian electoral
system will remain in place for local representative bodies — the maslikhats. Following the ceremony, the President
awarded several Kazakh citizens, recognizing their contribution to the
country’s development.
