Kazakhstan digitalizes Trans-Caspian International Transport Route

The digitalization of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is underway, marking a new stage in the development of transport logistics between Asia and Europe. In collaboration with a Singaporean company, the Digital Trade Corridor platform has been developed, allowing for real-time tracking of cargo location, customs status, and updates on accompanying documents, which enhances transparency and reliability in operations. Additionally, the Tez Customs platform facilitates electronic customs clearance of goods transiting through Kazakhstan, eliminating paperwork and reducing the risk of errors. This not only accelerates the transportation process but also lowers costs for shipping companies. The system has already been implemented at the Chinese border, reducing the time required to process transit declarations from 2-3 hours to no more than 30 minutes. Experts note that the digitalization and automation of processes along the Middle Corridor open new prospects for transport logistics in the region, contributing to Kazakhstan’s integration into the global trade system. Notably, the country plans to handle nearly eight million tonnes of cargo through its seaports by year-end, with over four million tonnes expected to be transported via the TITR. Exports, transit, and the flow of imported goods have increased by 50 percent.

«This, in turn, demonstrates European companies’ interest in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which has been supported by comprehensive measures taken in recent years for its development. This year, two agreements with China were ratified, and Kazakhstan’s terminal in Xi’an was opened. Measures have been implemented to simplify customs procedures at border crossings, and the provision of subsidies for exporters has been worked out with the Chinese side. In line with the instructions given by President Tokayev to increase cargo transportation volumes along the Trans-Caspian route fivefold, a Comprehensive Plan for the development of maritime infrastructure until 2028 has been adopted,» said Kassym Tlepov, Deputy Chairman of the Railway and Water Transport Committee of the Kazakh Transport Ministry.
