Nur-Sultan airport to operate in limited mode from July 15

The capital’s airport is changing its flights schedule due to the runway repair work. Now, the airlines will operate departures and arrivals from 18 p.m. to 11 a.m. The schedule changes come into effect on July 15. The airport will operate in this mode until August 8. Passengers will not be fined for returning tickets during the mentioned period. Representatives of the international airport clarified that the repair work is carried out in summer due to weather conditions. The asphalt must be hot, but in autumn it normally rains. 5,000 square meters of the airport territory are subject to reconstruction.

“Not only the runway, but the apron part of the airfield, as well as the part of the taxiway are being repaired. Approximately 2,000 square meters of the runway should be repaired. Passenger traffic has increased now, so, the number of domestic flights has risen so far. International flights gradually resume. Domestic traffic increased by 40 percent, whereas international ones by 27 percent. Today, the territory of Russia is closed, so, the majority of flights are operated in the south. Each airline company chooses a profitable route,” said Yergazy Zholdassov, Deputy Chairperson of Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport.

Representatives of the airport stress that the current renovation differs from the road works. Special asphalt is applied. As soon as the damaged area is removed, it should be paved over immediately. In addition, experts will check the quality of the new paving two hours before the runway opening.
