Today marks the start of the
Muslim holy month of Ramadan. In his congratulations, President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev noted special significance the Islamic holiday holds for the Kazakh
people. He highlighted that enduring values such as kindness, honesty, mercy,
and compassion come to the forefront of society during Ramadan fasting.
“This is a time when Muslims
vividly demonstrate unity and solidarity. The holy month of Ramadan calls for
spiritual purification, helping those in need, and charity, thus promoting
universal ideals. A country where people respect religious and cultural
traditions, with prevailing peace and concord, will overcome any challenges. I
am confident that by maintaining harmony and mutual understanding, Kazakh
people will steadily follow the path of progress. I wish everyone good health,
prosperity, and success! Ramadan Mubarak!” the President said.
Muslim
holy month of Ramadan commences
As per the Islamic calendar,
Ramadan will last for 30 days. Laylat al-Qadr, also known as the Night of Power,
falls on the night of April 5 to 6, while Eid al-Fitr (Oraza Ait) begins on April
10. It is believed that abstaining from any physical need during fasting allows
Muslims to affirm the strength of their faith. This year, Zakat al-Fitr
(charitable donation) is set at 640 tenge.
