New language–vision model Qolda launched in Kazakhstan

Developers from Nazarbayev University have presented artificial intelligence capable of working both with texts in the Kazakh language and images and audio. They introduced AI assistants designed for media, science, and legal applications. One such model is Qolda. The project is already available for use and can run not only on supercomputers, but also on ordinary smartphones and laptops. According to experts, the development of such technologies will help increase the amount of high-quality digital content in the Kazakh language and open up opportunities for building domestic AI systems.

«There is still a limited amount of open data and Kazakh-language content available online. One of the main goals of this project is to encourage people to use the Kazakh language more actively in the digital world. The larger the digital footprint we create in Kazakh online, the more high-quality and accessible Kazakh-language data will become available. This, in turn, will make it easier for developers to create models and AI agents capable of understanding and speaking Kazakh at a very high level,» noted Yerbol Absalyamov, Executive Director of the ISSAI at Nazarbayev University.
