The 10th WorldSkills Kazakhstan National Championship has kicked off in
Astana. Over the next three days, the capital will serve as a major hub of
professional excellence. More than 800 competitors and over 700 experts from
across the country have gathered there. The participants are the top college
students in technical and vocational fields from all regions of Kazakhstan.
According to the organizers, the number of skill categories has been
significantly expanded this year - from 30 to 45, as part of the Year of
Vocational Professions. Contestants are showcasing their abilities in the most
in-demand areas, including information technology, service, construction,
transport and technical trades. For the first time, new categories such as
locomotive engineers and IT developers are featured. The Ministry of Education
emphasized that introducing new specialties linked to technological progress
and the integration of artificial intelligence is a key priority. Only the
winners of regional championships qualify for the national stage, while the
winners of the national championship will earn the opportunity to represent
Kazakhstan at the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
«Overall, as part of the Year of Vocational Professions, we are undertaking
extensive work across all areas, including updating specialty classifiers. The
working group has proposed the inclusion of new specialty classifiers,
particularly in the IT field. In line with the development of artificial
intelligence (AI), the college’s specialty classifier will also include a program
for Artificial Intelligence Technician. This refers to a person who will
be directly involved in implementing automation and integrating AI elements
into work processes,» said Asset Mukhanbetov, director of the
technical and vocational education department at the Kazakh Ministry of
Education.
