Kazakhstan set to become international aviation hub

Astana International Airport will be able to handle up to 12 million passengers per year, up from the current nine million. The development of the capitals air hub was discussed by the Kazakh government. The project includes the construction of a new runway, renovation of aprons and terminals, and modernization of technical equipment. Infrastructure development is also planned, including logistics complexes, warehouses, hotels, offices, and administrative buildings. The work is being carried out under the directives of the Head of State to create an international aviation hub. Kazakhstan also plans to modernize its fleet by purchasing new Boeing aircraft. During President Kassym-Jomart Tokayevs visit to the U.S., the national carrier Air Astana signed a $7 billion contract with the American corporation. The first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is set to be delivered to Kazakhstan next year. Cooperation with the American corporation also continues with SCAT Airlines. By 2035, the plan is to acquire 15 Boeing 737 aircraft.
