Astana International Airport will be able to handle up to 12 million
passengers per year, up from the current nine million. The development of the capital’s air hub
was discussed by the Kazakh government. The
project includes the construction of a new runway, renovation
of aprons and terminals, and modernization of technical equipment. Infrastructure development is also
planned,
including logistics complexes, warehouses, hotels, offices, and
administrative buildings. The work is being carried out under the directives of the Head of State to create an international aviation hub. Kazakhstan also plans to modernize
its fleet by purchasing new Boeing aircraft. During President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev’s visit to the U.S., the national carrier Air Astana signed a $7 billion
contract with the American corporation. The first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is
set to be delivered to Kazakhstan next year. Cooperation with the American
corporation also continues with SCAT Airlines. By 2035, the plan is to acquire
15 Boeing 737 aircraft.
