A new variety of cotton has been developed in Kazakhstan.
The final stage of testing is now nearing completion. According to scientists,
the cotton, named Maktaaral-5030, is high-yielding and, most importantly,
adapted for mechanical harvesting - a crucial factor for large-scale
agricultural production.
«Research results have shown that the fiber from this cotton
variety is very strong, and its density meets the standards for high-quality
raw materials used in the textile industry. In addition, yields can reach up to
43–45 centners of raw cotton per hectare,» said Amandyk Kostakov, Head of the Agricultural
Experimental Station for Cotton and Melon Growing.
According to scientists, Maktaaral-5030 has the potential to
occupy a significant niche not only among high-yielding but also among
disease-resistant cotton varieties. Developed by Kazakh researchers, it is
resistant to wilt - a serious disease affecting cotton crops. This trait is
especially important in the context of climate change and the need to reduce
phytosanitary risks. The new variety is expected to receive a patent during
this agricultural season.
