National opera «Khan Sultan. Altyn Orda» premieres in Almaty

The grand premiere of the new national opera «Khan Sultan. Altyn Orda» took place at the Abai Theater in Almaty. The production, dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the Ulus of Zhoshy, the eldest son of Genghis Khan, is based on historical facts and tells the story of the formation of this powerful empire. The plot centers on the life of the wise ruler of the Golden Horde, Khan Sultan, the wife of Zhoshy Khan and the mother of Berke Khan. Thanks to her intelligence and political wisdom, she became one of the key figures in the empire.

The performance captivated the audience with its incredible scale and grandeur. Around 300 people participated in its creation, including nearly the entire opera and ballet troupe of the theatre, the orchestra, and others. More than 170 stage costumes were made. The production was staged by the renowned Italian director, Davide Livermore.

«I love the story because it is a story that speaks about the importance of women in society and the world, and this is the time of the women. The last six months were really important; it was a good time for me to study this amazing story and, overall, this amazing score because I want to serve just every score that I have in my hands,» said Livermore.

«The main theme is respect for mothers. When a woman sets her mind to something, she can achieve her goals by overcoming all obstacles. For example, Khan Sultan, who became the wife of Zhoshy, the son of Genghis Khan, gave birth to Berke Khan, one of the most prominent figures of the Golden Horde. She played an important role in the creation and development of the Great Steppe we live in today,» said poet Maraltai Ybyrayev.
