Two exhibitions open in Astana ahead of Congress of World Religions’ Leaders

The spiritual heritage of the world - two unique exhibitions have opened in Astana, timed to coincide with the upcoming Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will take place in the Kazakh capital this September. One of the exhibitions features, for the first time in Kazakhstan, an exact replica of the Shroud of Turin. Visitors will not only be able to see the sacred Christian relic but also learn more about it through archival video footage, historical publications, and scholarly research. The second exhibition presents 50 rare scriptures from various faiths and historical periods, including the Quran, the Gospel, the Torah, the Old Testament, and Buddhist scrolls. According to the organizers, the exhibitions aim to foster interfaith dialogue and promote spiritual heritage. The displays will run until September 25.

«As part of the Congress, we are organizing these two exhibitions, which highlight Kazakhstan’s policy of interfaith harmony,» said Dmitry Baydek, sacristan of the Assumption Cathedral in Astana.

«Kazakhstan is becoming more and more a platform for this kind of intercultural, interreligious dialogue. This exhibition is an exhibition of the copies of the Shroud of Turin. It’s not only something which is related to the Christians only, it is something which is related to everyone who suffers. The point of suffering is a point of interreligious dialogue because the pain of one person is the same as the pain of the other in any other religion. So, in suffering in order to avoid suffering, in order to take care of the suffering, we must all come together,» noted Apostolic Nuncio to Kazakhstan George Panamthundil.
