Through the lens of Jibek Joly/Silk Way TV
channel, part of the Kazakh President’s TV and Radio Complex, journalists were
given a close-up look at China’s national heritage – the Terracotta Army. The
visit took place during the Spirit of the Silk Road and Cultural Heritage press
tour organized by the Chinese media corporation CGTN. This clay army consists
of over 8,000 statues of warriors, representing different types of troops
buried with China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. Each figure is meticulously
crafted with facial features, clothing, and armor. The terracotta warriors, discovered
in 1974 near the city of Xi’an, are more than 2,000 years old. Today, the open-air
museum attracts not only local residents but also millions of tourists from
abroad. The archaeological exposition is included in the UNESCO cultural
heritage list.
«When we talk about the revival of the Silk
Road, we are talking about a renaissance of culture. Material heritage precisely
reflects the ancient and rich spiritual culture of Central Asian peoples as
well. Thanks to the currently strengthening cooperation of China with Central
Asian countries, a substantial number of joint projects in archaeology, the
arts, and museum development are in progress. It’s not enough to make a
composition now – it must be accessible, engaging, convenient, and relevant to
modern audiences,» said Sheradil Baktygulov, Director of the Institute of World
Politics in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The revival of the Silk Road, experts say, is
not only an economic process, but also a cultural one, which promotes the
development of dialogue and spiritual values between the countries of Central
Asia and China.
