Medical students from Central Asia undergo training in Astana

The Kazakhstan Agency for International Development (KazAID) continues its program for medical students from Central Asia – «Avicenna: Healthcare». The project aims to support academic mobility and the exchange of advanced knowledge among future doctors from Central Asian countries. This year, 12 students from the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan are participating in the program. In addition to lectures, they will undertake a three-week practical training in leading medical institutions in Astana. Notably, over the past three years, around 50 students and faculty members have participated in the program. According to the organizers, this demonstrates strong interest in educational cooperation within the region.

«We are implementing this program as part of Kazakhstan’s official development assistance to partner countries, including the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan. The project focuses on interregional cooperation in medical education and was launched in 2024. It was carried out in partnership with Astana Medical University and continues in collaboration with our partners from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA),» noted Nazgul Sharipova, Partnership and Regional Projects Senior Manager, Kazakhstan Agency of International Development KazAID.

The project strengthens professional connections between countries in the region and enables students to explore new technologies and practices used in Kazakhstan’s healthcare system. The skills and knowledge they acquire can be applied in their home countries.

«This is my first time in Kazakhstan, and I’m really excited to see how everything unfolds. I’m very interested in the medical field here. Previously, I took part in an academic mobility program in Saint Petersburg, where I attended conferences on obstetrics and gynecology, and Kazakh doctors were among the speakers. I found it very interesting and informative. I can say that obstetrics here is highly advanced. Overall, I hope to gain international experience, and I believe Kazakhstan has recently become one of the leading and strongest countries in the CIS,» said Albina Sultanaliyeva, student, Osh State University, the Kyrgyz Republic.
