Mazhilis Speaker outlines tasks for deputies following President’s instructions

A solid legislative foundation is essential for the government to effectively implement the tasks outlined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Deputies should not only pass laws that benefit society but also explain their importance. Today, Yerlan Koshanov, Chairperson of the Mazhilis, the lower house of Parliament, emphasized Tokayev’s focus on attracting high-quality investments, introducing cutting-edge technologies, and reforming the tax system. According to Koshanov, these initiatives will ensure sustainable development and improved well-being for Kazakh citizens. However, this requires commitment from every deputy and faction.

«All legislative decisions must be made in close contact with the population. It is necessary to continue following the ‘listening state’ concept, interact more actively with voters, communicate more intensively within the public reception office of the Mazhilis, pay special attention to citizens’ appeals. The people’s voice and will are the key concept of the entire policy of the Head of State,» Koshanov said.

Mazhilis ratifies agreement with Russia on unified energy systems operation

At the Mazhilis meeting, the deputies also reviewed and approved a number of laws. In particular, they ratified the intergovernmental agreement between Kazakhstan and Russia to ensure the parallel operation of unified energy systems. The document defines conditions for interaction in the energy sector. According to the Kazakh Energy Minister, changes are necessary in connection with unscheduled electricity flows and supply shortages.

«Two different payment regimes are outlined. If the deviation of Kazakhstan’s energy system stays within 150 megawatts, as agreed, the Kazakh side only pays for electricity. If it exceeds 150 megawatts, additional costs include dispatching and transit fees through Russia’s Federal Grid Company networks,» explained Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev.
