A notable musical moment unfolded last Saturday at the Silk Way Star vocal contest. In the second episode, Kazakhstan’s contestant Alem secured second place, winning over the jury with his vibrant performance. Notably, in this round the participants performed global hits in English. The jury also highly praised contestants from Georgia, Uzbekistan, and Armenia. However, for the second week in a row, the highest score went to Malaysian singer Yazmin Aziz. To support her, Filipino blogger Simon Javier, who has a massive online following, flew specially to Astana. He noted that the project gives young performers a chance to gain international recognition. The foreign guest also shared his impressions of Kazakhstan, which he is visiting for the first time.
«I am really proud of Yazmin, because having this opportunity to represent Malaysia is such a big honor and she is doing such an amazing job. So, I’m so proud of her and I can’t wait to see more. And I hope we can include different countries like the Philippines and different more countries so we can see more. Yeah, Silk Way Star is doing an amazing job and I know this is going to be a successful project. Congratulations, Silk Way Star! Amazing!» Javier said.
Azerbaijan’s representative, Sabina Zadeh, was then
announced as leaving the project. To support her, the other 11 contestants
joined her on stage and performed a song together. Silk Way Star is the first international
vocal contest held in the Kazakh capital. The show brings together performers
from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, China, the Kyrgyz Republic,
Malaysia, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and South Korea, who
showcase both their vocal talent and the cultural traditions of their
countries.
