Kazakh researchers set to study archives of Uzbekistan

Domestic researchers are set to study the archives of Uzbekistan. Starting this year, they will explore previously unknown historical data and facts about Kazakhstan. Notably, Uzbekistan’s archives house over 16 million documents, with half of these rare books and manuscripts containing information related to Kazakhstan. However, many of these materials have not yet been studied. Uzbek experts believe that Kazakh historians may discover new information.

«We aim to explore previously undisclosed historical documents stored in the National Archives of Uzbekistan and then preserve them for future generations. Scientific works will be published upon completion of the three-year project,» said Ibrahim Babayev, head of the committee at the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information.

«In 2007, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of archival affairs. Last December, the parties agreed to conduct research activities. Thanks to the agreement, new historically significant information has been revealed. Nearly half of the documents stored in Uzbek archives pertain to Kazakhstan,» noted Anvarjon Aliyev, head of the Uzbek committee on archival, documentary and book affairs, and the Uzarchive Agency.
