The Mangystau region plans to develop an
aviation hub. The country’s government is working on the issues related to
direct aviation fuel supplies to the region and increasing subsidized domestic
flights on new routes, with the involvement of foreign airlines. At the same
time, the Cabinet of Ministers is discussing the importance of developing
railway infrastructure and attracting investors to expand the Seaport Aktau
special economic zone. Since the start of the year, 14 projects have been
launched, and another 19 in the manufacturing industry, totaling 1.5 trillion
tenge, are at the development stage. The region is actively expanding its
transit and transport capabilities. In the first 10 months of 2024, the volume
of transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route grew by
70 percent, and container shipments increased almost threefold. 2.3 million
tonnes of cargo were transported by rail and 6.3 million tonnes by sea.
Overall, the region is focusing on both infrastructure development and several
other sectors of the economy. This includes, in particular, the reconstruction
of highways, the construction of a container hub at the Aktau port, providing
various services, improving their quality, and developing the energy and
tourism sectors.
