Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan strengthen strategic partnership

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid a working visit to Uzbekistan. At Bukhara Airport, the distinguished guest was personally welcomed by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.


During the informal meeting between the two leaders, President Tokayev emphasized that Uzbekistan is a reliable strategic partner of Kazakhstan.


«There are no contradictions or disagreements between our countries. The signed agreements and arrangements are being consistently implemented. The Government of Kazakhstan clearly understands the need for the unconditional fulfillment of mutual obligations. The relevant work is being carried out under my supervision,» President Tokayev noted.


The Kazakh President noted that the foundation of the strategic partnership and alliance between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is based on long-standing close ties. The Head of State also emphasized Uzbekistan’s steady development, as well as the large-scale infrastructure and social projects being implemented in the country. The President thanked his counterpart for his congratulations on the adoption of Kazakhstan’s new Constitution. According to him, Shavkat Mirziyoyev was the first foreign leader to congratulate Kazakhstan on this historic event. In turn, the President of Uzbekistan highlighted the effectiveness of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s reforms and the country’s achievements in the economic sphere and digitalization. He noted that the meeting in Bukhara is of great importance for expanding cooperation both between the two countries and across the entire region. During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation in the extraction and processing of rare earth metals, transit and transport, water and energy sectors, as well as the IT sector. As a result, it was decided to adopt a roadmap between the governments of the two countries for the further development of trade and economic partnership.

The two leaders familiarized themselves with the work of the Situational Center in Bukhara and also attended an artificial intelligence hackathon. In addition, the Presidents were shown the operation of the city’s industrial facilities. Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with rare archival materials, including copies of valuable historical documents discovered in Uzbekistan such as drawings and photographs from the 1920s–1950s related to the Mausoleums of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and Rabia Sultan Begim in Turkistan. The Heads of State also visited well-known architectural monuments in Bukhara.
