Kazakhstan and
Uzbekistan are set to increase trade turnover to $10 billion, as announced by
Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov during a meeting with Uzbek President
Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent. Smailov arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the
16th Economic Cooperation Organization Summit. It is noteworthy that the
country is one of Kazakhstan’s largest trading partners. The two states account
for about 70 percent of all trade in Central Asia. Smailov underscored that the
implementation of all agreements reached at the highest level is under the
control of the Kazakh and Uzbek governments.
“The implementation of all agreements reached between you, Mr. President, and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, is under the special control of the governments of the two countries. One of the priority areas is the creation of a solid and sustainable economic platform for our cooperation. As you noted earlier, we indeed have significant tasks ahead of us. The mutual trade turnover surged by 30 percent last year and continues to rise. We are committed to further enhancing trade and economic cooperation. A total of 10 joint projects have been successfully implemented over the last 1,5-2 years, and over 60 more are in progress. As you rightly noted, there are no unresolved issues or those beyond resolution between our parties,” Smailov said.
